Staycations set to continue into 2022

The restrictions on international travel over the past 18 months has had many of us rethinking our normal holiday plans and left us taking a good long look at closer-to-home options instead. Offering our children a taste of the UK holiday (which for many will be a new experience), and taking along grandma, grandpa as well as extended family has become a great way of making up for lost time with everyone. Staycations are also a wonderful way of sharing our own childhood memories and revisiting special places long forgotten.

Now as we explore our own coastlines and wonderful places the British Isles has to offer, it doesn’t matter if it was 50 years ago, 30 years ago, or more recent times, but the fact is those times we spent on UK breaks are often some of the happiest many of us can remember. So, after the rocky time we’ve all had, it’s no surprise that so many ‘staycationers’ are looking to relive the good times all over again in 2022 and create more of those special times but closer to home.

According to holiday stats, the top reasons why consumers enjoyed a staycation in 2021 were:  the comfortable and relaxing accommodation (34%), a change of environment (32%), less stress than going abroad (30%), and improved mental health (29%), while more than a quarter (27%) said they were pleased to support local economies.

Whilst international tourists are tempted to our shores to take in the UK’s enviable array of historic country house hotels, seaside cottages, boutique hotels, traditional inns, pubs-with-rooms and campsites, for a holiday to remember a spot of glamping is hard to beat.

Glamping is not only a fabulous way to reawaken our appreciation of the great outdoors; taking in the stunning countryside around us, visiting places we have only read about, exploring our incredibly diverse coastlines and heritage sites or simply relaxing in an inviting home from home environment. Now is the time to make plans to blow away those cobwebs from both lockdown and home working stresses.

Unusual and quirky accommodation is all part of the holidaying fun, trying out something new whilst getting away and treating yourself to added luxury and comfort. What could be better than gathering around the firepit reminiscing about out childhood adventures and exploits.

One of the most popular options for a glamping stay is of course the charming retreat of a luxury shepherd’s hut. Not only do you get to enjoy a change of scene, outdoor activities, locally-sourced food, but most importantly dedicated time with friends or family.

It's also a great way to experience a shepherd’s hut before deciding to embark on having your own. You can gain ideas and insights into the layout that suits you all best, if you prefer double beds or bunk beds – the choices are really only as limited as your own imagination.

Be warned though once the Shepherd’s Hut bug bites it’s hard to resist.
